Does Ultherapy Hurt?
What is Ultherapy?
Looking for a solution that helps tighten and tone skin – without resorting to expensive surgery that requires loads of downtime? Then you just might be a candidate for Ultherapy.
Ultherapy is an FDA-approved skin-tightening treatment that uses ultrasound energy to heat the dermis, thus triggering a tightening effect. In addition to skin tightening, Ultherapy is an excellent way to boost the body’s own natural collagen production. Ultherapy can be used on a variety of different body areas, but it’s most commonly used on the facial region, stomach, and arms.
Does Ultherapy Hurt?
It goes without saying that many people are interested in using Ultherapy to tighten their own skin. But they all have this follow-up question: “Does Ultherapy hurt?”
In general, Ultherapy doesn’t cause pain. Because this treatment uses ultrasound energy to trigger skin tightening, patients will feel a heating sensation and tingling below the dermis. At South Coast Plastic Surgery in Irvine, CA, board-certified Dr. Mark Song will use a couple of options to make you more comfortable during the Ultherapy procedure, including:
- A topical numbing cream is required for this treatment. It helps minimize the discomfort experienced by heating up the dermis.
- Pro-Nox, is also available. Pro-nox is a gaseous treatment administered through a mouthpiece. It contains 50% oxygen and 50% nitrous oxide. Patients who undergo Pro-Nox before the procedure will feel sleepy and comfortable throughout their session. The good news is, you will not need a ride home after treatment! Once the procedure is complete, the nitrous is expelled from the body within minutes.
You should start seeing skin-tightening results from your Ultherapy treatment right away, although you may need more than one to see ideal results. Long-term collagen production will keep your skin looking younger and smoother for up to a year.
