Is Microneedling Painful?
You’ve probably heard about microneedling – and if not, it’s time to introduce yourself to an innovative non-surgical treatment that can help you reveal your best skin ever.
Microneedling is an FDA-cleared procedure that helps speed up cellular turnover, thus reducing the appearance of wrinkles, fine lines, hyperpigmentation, and more. It’s so popular, in fact, that it has been featured on several reality TV shows.
South Coast Plastic Surgery is introducing a new microneedling option. Called “Intensif”, this is microneedling combined with radiofrequency. This new modality uses RF heat which is released by the needles when the needles have penetrated the dermis. This heat may result in greater skin tightening. This procedure is also helpful in treating acne scars and stretch marks.
But with microneedling’s growth in popularity comes a popular question:
Is microneedling painful?
What to Expect from My Microneedling Procedure
Microneedling procedures aren’t painful, but they can be uncomfortable, especially for patients who may be afraid of needles.
Microneedling uses tiny needlepoints to create punctures within the dermis; doing so helps encourage the body’s collagen and elastin production, leading to younger and smoother-looking skin. While many patients compare it to feeling sandpaper lightly rubbed across their skin, others mention feeling some sharp discomfort during their treatment.
If you’re worried about your microneedling procedure, don’t worry: We use a topical numbing cream to manage any pain or discomfort you might feel during your treatment.
What Results Should I Expect?
The results certainly make any discomfort worth it, as patients can expect to achieve more radiant and rejuvenated skin. Additionally, skin can look clearer and younger, as microneedling is an excellent solution for patients who have acne scarring, sun damage, wrinkles, and more.
The Intensif treatment is recommended in a series of 3, spaced 1 month apart.
Regular microneedling usually takes about three to five microneedling treatments to see ideal results.
