In general, most anti-aging injectables can be divided into two categories: Botox and dermal fillers. These make up the majority of the anti-aging injectable market, and for good reason: they’re highly effective at minimizing the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines, as well as counteracting other common aging symptoms.
Let’s dive deeper into the differences between Botox and dermal fillers:
- Active ingredient: BOTOX® (onabotulinumtoxinA),
while dermal fillers usually contain hyaluronic acid. Both compounds are safe and effective at minimizing wrinkles; however, they accomplish this goal in very different ways.
- Counteracting wrinkles: BOTOX® (onabotulinumtoxinA)
interrupts the nerve cell’s signals to muscles, which results in more relaxed and smoother-looking skin. Dermal fillers work by plumping up the skin from beneath the surface, which minimizes wrinkles and fine lines.
- Treatment areas: Botox works best between the eyebrows treating the frown lines and on forehead lines and crow’s feet; it can even be used to provide a subtle eyebrow lift. Dermal fillers are popular for cheek and lip augmentation, for softening the tear trough areas, in the temples, as a non-surgical “nose job”, chin and even re-volumizing the hands.
- Duration of results: BOTOX® (onabotulinumtoxinA)
results usually last around three to six months.
Dermal fillers tend to last a little bit longer, with most injectables ranging anywhere from up to 1 to 2 years.
