What happens during the labiaplasty procedure?
Your labiaplasty procedure may be done with general or local anesthesia, depending on your surgical plan and preferences. A labiaplasty procedure typically takes one to two hours.
Labiaplasty is usually performed with either the trim or wedge techniques, or variations on these. Your surgical plan and technique will be discussed with you and determined in your consultation with Dr. Ali.
Trim technique
The incisions are made along the edges of the labia to remove and trim excess tissue. The labia are reduced in size and reshaped, and the incisions are closed with sutures.
Wedge technique
The incisions are made in V-shape, allowing a wedge of tissue to be removed from both sides of the labia to reduce the size and improve the shape. After the tissue is removed, the incisions are sutured, leaving the natural edges of the labia intact. This technique can minimize the risk of sensation loss and improve scarring.
