How does nipple repair work?

When performed as a stand-alone procedure, nipple correction is a reasonably fast procedure, performed under local anesthetic on an outpatient basis. You may be more comfortable with a prescription sedative which could briefly limit your activity, but most people undergoing this delicate surgery can return to their regular activities within just a few days. The extent of the procedure and the approach will reflect the condition of your nipples, whether too large, uneven in size, stretched, inverted, or with a puffy appearance.

How is nipple reconstruction performed?

There are several methods used to recreate a nipple and areola. Grafting is one of the most common procedures, which takes donor skin and tissue to rebuild the nipple. If there is enough skin and underlying soft tissue, you may be a suitable candidate for a flap reconstruction, wherein a series of small incisions are created to allow for elevation of two or three small flaps of tissue to be raised and sutured together to create a nipple.
